We are particularly proud to announce that the BCThubs – Blue Culture Technology Excellence Hubs project, in which we actively participate, has recently received two major international distinctions, recognizing its contribution to sustainable development, Underwater Cultural Heritage (UCH), and the blue economy.
BCThubs was honored with the Second Prize at the Sustainable Development Action Awards 2025, confirming its substantial impact in promoting sustainable practices with economic, social, and environmental dimensions. This distinction highlights the project’s leading role in sustainable innovation through collaborative actions that strengthen the protection, restoration, and valorization of underwater cultural heritage in Malta, Greece, and Bulgaria.
At the same time, BCThubs was officially recognized as an EU Success Story and named winner of the WestMED Best Project Award 2025 in the Maritime Clusters category, within the framework of the 5th WestMED Stakeholder Conference, held in Tunis, Tunisia. This award honors projects that embody the vision of the WestMED initiative by promoting cross-border cooperation, innovation, and sustainable development in the Mediterranean.
This recognition confirms the success of the innovative model of interconnected “Blue Culture and Technology Excellence Hubs”, as well as BCThubs’ contribution to strengthening research, technological innovation, training, and awareness in the field of underwater cultural heritage.
The project continues its activities dynamically, with the next major milestone being the 2nd International Conference “Innovative Practices and Policy Pathways for the Sustainable Management and Protection of Underwater Cultural Heritage”, which will take place in December 2026 in Bulgaria.
