Within the framework of the EU-funded project BCThubs, the 2nd International Conference “Widening the Big Blue Horizon” is being organized, focusing on Innovative Practices and Policy Pathways for the Sustainable Management and Protection of Underwater Cultural Heritage. The Conference will be held in a hybrid format on 3–4 December 2026, at the Cultural Centre “Sea Casino” in Burgas, Bulgaria.
The main objective of the Conference is to bring together experts, researchers, and stakeholders from academic and research institutions, the research and innovation industry, as well as the public and private sectors. The Conference aims to serve as a platform for knowledge exchange, experience sharing, and constructive dialogue, supporting research, conservation, accessibility, and the sustainable management of Underwater Cultural Heritage.
The Conference focuses on five (5) main thematic areas:
- Innovative Technologies in Maritime Research
- UNESCO Best Practices and the Management of Underwater Cultural Heritage
- Adaptive and sustainable approaches to Climate Change impacts on Underwater Heritage
- Integrating 3D, geospatial, semantic, and data-driven frameworks for Underwater Cultural Heritage: building a Digital Ecosystem for maritime and coastal knowledge
- Policy Pathways for Accessible and Sustainable Underwater Heritage
The participation applications are now open, and you may submit your abstracts by 31 January 2026 by registering here.
The Conference will be conducted in English.
