Atlantis Consulting co-organised the 2nd SUNBIO Workshop on “Posidonia oceanica Restoration”

Atlantis Consulting S.A., as partner of SUNBIO project, co-organised with the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) the 2nd SUNBIO Workshop on “Posidonia oceanica Restoration”, which took place on 3 June 2026 at the UPC Campus in Vilanova i la Geltrú, Spain, in a hybrid format.

The workshop brought together nearly 100 participants, both on-site and online, creating a dynamic space for knowledge exchange on the restoration, monitoring and long-term protection of Posidonia oceanica meadows, one of the most important marine ecosystems of the Mediterranean Sea.

During the event, 16 presentations, networking sessions and open discussions took place, bringing together scientists, researchers, restoration practitioners, technology experts, environmental organisations, citizen science initiatives and representatives of the blue economy.

The workshop topics covered issues such as restoration effectiveness, transplantation techniques, monitoring systems, the use of satellite imagery and artificial intelligence, the involvement of local communities, as well as the use of emerging technologies such as autonomous underwater vehicles and smart monitoring systems.

The co-organisation of the event by Atlantis Consulting and UPC contributed to strengthening collaboration among research organisations, experts and stakeholders active in the fields of marine restoration, sustainable blue growth and the protection of marine ecosystems.

The workshop highlighted that the restoration of Posidonia oceanica is not only an environmental priority, but also an important factor for coastal resilience, sustainable tourism development and the protection of marine biodiversity.

For those who were unable to attend the event, the full recording of the workshop is available on the SUNBIO YouTube channel:
