Lab4Dive project aims to design, develop, and validate an innovative, marketable and competitive product, a so called “Portable Smart Lab”, usable by underwater archaeologists as a support for surveying, documenting and preserving Underwater Cultural Heritage (UCH). The system will be developed with the active cooperation of business experts, young researchers, tutors, end users and local stakeholders coming from different scientific disciplines and industries in order to encourage multi-disciplinary approach with the set up and operation of a Blue Lab.
This programme is implemented in the framework of the European Programme: «Implementation of the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund Work Programme 2016 – Blue Labs: innovative solutions for maritime challenges». It started in March 2017, its duration is 24 months and it is co-funded by the European Union, with total budget 428.821 €. Partners of the Project are Atlantis Consulting, 3D Research SRL (Spin-off company of the University of Calabria), Università Politecnica delle Marche and the Hellenic Institute of Marine Archaeology.
Therefore, Lab4Dive Project will realize a ready-to-market system for enhancing the survey and documentation of underwater archaeological sites. It will be usable by divers in harsh conditions, it will maximize the amount of data acquired while minimizing the time of diving. It will also assist the divers to create a detailed and geo-referenced 3D reconstruction of the area. Finally, it will support the active cooperation of various research and Engineering groups (Archaeology, Archaeometry, ICT, etc.), together with business experts and local stakeholders in order to ensure the future sustainability of the product.
